Hello,
This is Real Swim Academy, SWIMENJOYAHN.
Continuing from yesterday, I woke up with a sore back again today.
So, I decided to look into it a bit more, and I found something interesting: Jongno, Jongno-gu Swimming PoolReal Swim "Gluteal Amnesia!!!"
That's what today's post is all about!

Firstly, back pain can be divided into two main categories:

  1. Muscular issues around the back.
  2. Issues related to discs.

Today's post focuses on the first category, specifically, issues with the muscles around the back.
Among these, there's a muscle called the "gluteus medius"!
Here it is:
Lately, just like many of you, I've noticed that a lot of office workers spend a considerable amount of time sitting. As a result, the gluteus medius tends to weaken.
When the gluteus medius weakens, it can lead to overuse of the back muscles when walking or moving. This can result in an altered gait and pelvic misalignment. Additionally, unused muscles can atrophy, not disappear, but lose strength due to lack of use.
The precise cause of Gluteal Amnesia is identified as dysfunction in the gluteus maximus and hamstring muscles, in simple terms, not knowing how to engage the muscles in the lower body properly.
A simple test is to engage the glutes, and if they don't feel firm, it's almost certain.
Although I haven't reached that point yet, I'm doing occasional tests.
As for dealing with Gluteal Amnesia:

  1. Bridge exercises
  2. Hip abduction exercises
  3. Glute stretches
  4. Glute muscle massage

These are recommended.
I encourage everyone to check if they might be experiencing Gluteal Amnesia and take proactive measures.
