Hello,

It's Real Swim Academy, swimenjoyahn!

It seems like it's been a while since you've posted a lot of swimming-related content.

This post is about

Gwanghwamun/Jongno-gu Swimming Pool Real Swim Academy

The reason for the prohibition of full-body swimsuits.

Firstly, in my opinion, the catalyst for the prohibition of full-body swimsuits seems to have been from the Beijing Olympics!

One memorable moment is, of course, when Park Tae-hwan won the freestyle 400m!

Ta-da!

As you can see in the photos, Park Tae-hwan doesn't have a swimsuit on his upper body.

Unlike other swimmers who wore full-body swimsuits, he wore a half-body swimsuit.

At that time, Park Tae-hwan gave a simple answer: 'Because it's uncomfortable.'

You might be wondering what the connection is between this and the prohibition of full-body swimsuits.

Let's find out!

Even the legend in the swimming world, 'Phelps, ' who swims every day to the point of not knowing what day it is, is a victim of swimsuits.

At the 2009 Rome World Swimming Championships, an expected winner, Phelps, was beaten by another swimmer.

That swimmer was 'Paul Biedermann.'

Biedermann wasn't a medal contender at the Beijing Olympics.

But within a year, he beat the legend of the swimming world.

The reason?

It was the Arena X-Glide full-body swimsuit.

In the photo, you can see Phelps wearing the Speedo LZR swimsuit he wore in Beijing, while Biedermann is wearing the Arena X-Glide!

It's a swimsuit made of 100% polyurethane.

The gray part is made of polyurethane material.

When Biedermann wore this swimsuit, he became like a rocket, but when he took off the X-Glide, he went back to normal.

So, as full-body swimsuits disappeared, Biedermann recorded 5th place in the 2012 London Olympics.

But that doesn't mean he lacked skill!

Skill needs to be backed up for the effect to take place!

Even Phelps felt like a rocket when he wore this swimsuit and entered the water.

Honestly, full-body swimsuits have been worn for a long time.

The development of advanced swimsuits began in 1998 when the first tight-fitting full-body swimsuit appeared.

This swimsuit had excellent features in minimizing the accumulation of fatigue-inducing substances such as lactic acid and reducing water resistance.

Thanks to it, it had the effect of improving everyone's records by about 3%.

The trend of full-body swimsuits started when Australian swimmer Ian Thorpe wore one and won three gold medals at the 2000 Sydney Olympics.

Swimmers started wearing them one by one, and the history of swimming changed.

In 2008 alone, an incredible 108 new records were set.

In the 2009 Rome World Championships, 43 new records were set.

After that, full-body swimsuits continued to evolve, using materials such as nylon and polyester to reduce resistance.

Research even incorporated principles from aviation and the skin of fish.

Then came the criticism of 'technological doping.'

As the swimming competitions were distorted by advanced technology, the International Swimming Federation (FINA) announced the prohibition of full-body swimsuits in 2009.

FINA stated that only swimsuits covering from the waist to the knees for men and from the shoulders to the knees for women would be allowed.

However, swimming and advanced technology are still used within the set regulations for swimsuits, goggles, swimming caps, etc.

In conclusion!!!

Park Tae-hwan was great, and after the disappearance of full-body swimsuits, the establishment of new records has become modest.
